Ok, I'm a huge fan of paranormal fiction AND a huge fan of m/m erotica, so I suppose I'm biased, but _His Soul to Take_ hits the mark in every way for me. The story is extremely well written, well paced; the prose is beautiful, which isn't necessarily a criteria for me (very few authors do beautiful prose well), but rather the icing on the cake! The world in which Death/Simon and Robert live is well thought out (the setting is a modern day large city; what's important is that the paranormal aspects are thoughtfully put together and consistant.) The Simon and Robtert are solid and well developed, even for a very short book; minor characters are a little flat, but still satisifying (we all all understand the stereo-type homophobic father and there are times and places when/where using a stereo-type just *works*.)The erotic/sex scenes are beautiful without being overly graphic (not that there's anything wrong with overly "graphic", but sometimes less is more, especially in a shorter work.) Of course, if you don't like m/m erotica, it's probably still over the top... but for those who do enjoy a little smut, well... :D
Fair warning, although _His Soul to Take_ does deliver a 'happily ever after' ending, I strongly recommend reading this one with a box of tissues near by!

Death has been sent for Robert, but he finds himself reluctant to take the young man. Instead he rescues Robert, spends time with him, and finds himself reminded what it's like to live and to love. But life is finite. Death's duty is clear.
The love story between Death and Robert is sweet and touching... one of the more romantic m/m stories I've ever read. The story is well-told and poignant. Highly recommend.
A wonderful love story. I cried but was grateful for a happy ending.
I'd recommend this book to anyone who has an open mind.
